A short note on Anaphora

Anaphora   Repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of two or more successive verse lines , clause or sentence is called Anaphora. Examples: “So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.” (Shakespeare: Sonnet XVIII) “In every cry of every man , In every infant 's cry of fear, In every voice, in every ban, The mind-forg 'd manacles I hear:” (W. Black: “London”) “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of age of wisdom, It was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, It was the season of light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the  Winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we a were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other  way “ ( Charles Dickens: “A Tale of Two Cities)  I Martin Luther King jr ‘s famous speech , “I Have a Dream” , there are two use of anaphora. I have a dream and with this faith  have been repeated several times.  Writer use anaphora to emphasise the points they want to make.
